IOLAN+Rack setup problems

I'm not sure where to post this, so I thought I'd give it a go here.

A former colleague of mine had set up a 16 port IOLAN+Rack for a rack
of Sun servers. Unfortunately he didn't label the switch or document
what the IP address of the switch was, so I had no IP access to it.

I'm not familiar at all with this piece of hardware, but I did manage
to get my hands on the manual. I wasn't able to see anything through
the serial connection (via port 1) so I decided the thing to do was
to reset the switch back to factory default settings and start over.

Upon rebooting of the switch I see the following in my hyper terminal
screen:

................

16 dashes. I assume these represent the number of ports on the
switch,
but it never gets past there or gets me to a login prompt.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong? Am I missing any steps?

Thanks,
Leon

It's not a switch; it's a terminal server.

Did you reset it to factory defaults?

As I recall, the reset procedure in the manual is misleading. You need
to hold the reset button down with the power off, turn the power on, and
then release the button (maybe after the menu appears). From the menu
you can reset everything, load firmware, etc.
