They refuse to authenticate to you.
Hmmm. A little backgroud follows:
Installed mandriva-free-2007-tyr-CD.x86_64 and was able to connect,
pass auth with pap/chap setings ,
but not browse, pings would work.
Looking through your howto, indicates _novj_ might fix that. :)

The 2007 release for 64 bit arch is beta and had too many
problems so I installed mandriva-free-2007-tyr-CD.i586.
The 32 bit beta software set is running much better,
except I cannot get past Auth check which worked on the 64 bit software.

This setup is for my 60+ granny neighbor so I am trying to get this to
work through the Kppp gui app and I was not able to install the
Production 2006 release on her sata 200g drive.

This is true of almost all isps.
Remove the require-pap or +pap from the options.
Ok, will have to research how to do that.
Using Kppp gui app and it does not give me that choice. :-(
Trying to make it easy on my granny neighbor. :)

Do not ask them to authenticate to you.
Well I am confused now. :(
Having goolgled the last two years of posts, I thought the following two lines
indicated what I can do and what the ISP accepts

: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <mru 1524>
<asyncmap 0xa0000> <magic 0xf2b3ddd3> <pcomp> <accomp>]

: rcvd [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 < 00 04 00 00> <mru 1524> <asyncmap 0xa0000>
<auth pap> <pcomp> <accomp> <mrru 1524> <endpoint [MAC:00:c0:7b:8d:36:c0]>]

I thought the ConfReq with <auth pap> indicated they accept pap??

: sent [LCP ConfRej id=0x1 < 00 04 00 00> <mrru 1524>]

Any idea what I can do to clean up the above < 00 04 00 00>
No idea why there is the mrru instead of mru either.

Changed the Kppp arguments from pap to pap/chap and have set mru 1524,
asyncmap 0xa0000 debug

Todays test shot log.

Nor does the ISP. Adding the pppd option nomp to Nak-out all the
multilink stuff seems in order.

At this point my best guess is that the password or user name at
the ISP differs from what you send.

A relatively minor surgery, but then relatively minor varies with age.
Anyway, I'm Baaackk - as the saying goes. :)

Minor surgery happens to others. Yeah, I know what you mean - I've been
lucky and only have had three out-patients this year.

Oh ***@mn - does that mean you're going to run for governor too? Actually,
I shouldn't worry - I'm not in Texas ;-)

Trying to connect to Internet America (airmail.net)
Running KPPP as fui front end to pppd.

I set asyncmap a0000, mru 1524, debug and pap.

Real problem was a loose nut behind the keyboard. I did have the login
id misspelled. :(

Also needed to set /Disable existing DNS servers during connection/
under the DNS tab in the Edit Account screen.
